President's Message:

Dear GCDA members,

It’s finally starting to feel like fall and that means we are ready to kick-off another great year of GCDA membership events and opportunities! I want to start by saying how privileged I feel to lead our dietetic association this year. I truly appreciate my fellow GCDA leaders, past and present, who have taught me so much in the last four years of being involved on the Board. With their wisdom, words of encouragement, and the support of my family, I am fortunate to be able to devote my time to this great organization. That being said, I am more than ready and very excited to take on the challenge of serving as your president for the upcoming year.

I have set my goals high this year and I want to continue the legacy that GCDA has been creating. The Board and I have already been working hard to make 2017-2018 an exciting year. My first goal is to increase membership participation through attendance at membership meetings and GCDA events. I would like to see our attendance rate meet an average of 80% of those who register for each meeting. It was great to meet many of you at GCDA’s first event, the Meet and Greet Social at 50 West Brewery. The event was coordinated by our COPI chair, Nick Bess and was a huge success.

Our first membership meeting, “Enhancing Hospital Geriatric Care: Teams that Include the Patient and Family” was on October 10th at The Christ Hospital. Check out our website (www.eatrightcincinnati.org) for additional information on all of our upcoming events and don't forget to share these events with your coworkers and friends so they can see what GCDA has to offer. At the heart of our membership meetings and events is our membership base.

My second goal this year is to increase the size of GCDA by approximately 5% to 270 members. Allison Bokenkotter has been working hard to build our membership numbers and encourage previous members to renew their AND and/or GCDA memberships. Look for upcoming information about becoming a liaison at your workplace to help us grow and promote GCDA activities.

My third goal is to end the 2017-2018 year with our finances in the black. As we plan the budget for this year, we hope to send at least 11 members to OAND's Legislation and Public Policy Day and continue to provide interesting and educational speakers at each of our membership meetings, all while balancing our budget.

Last but not least, my fourth and final goal is to update and revise the GCDA bylaws, policies and procedures, and job description documents. It is important that we hold ourselves accountable and having these documents organized will guide us to success! 

Again, I look forward to a great year serving as your President.
